How the fuck can a band like Lostprophets who haven't released any material in about three years and a band like You Me At Six who have been on the radar for about four months get nominated for Best British Band whilst bands like Skindred and The Ghost Of A Thousand are completely overlooked? Madina Lake get put forward for Best International Band but no place for bands like Foo Fighters whose time in the public eye will last a lot longer than it takes Madina Lake to do their hair. This is the trouble with opening the nominations at an early stage to complete morons who have an IQ a considerable percentage lower than they have MySpace friends.

What a load of bollocks - this is what happens when you shovel shit into everyone's faces week in week out. Obviously Kerrang's emo fan-boy arse-kissing fan base didn't want to see any repeat of Machine Head's domination at the awards last year, hence why all the MCR fans threw their toys out of the pram last year when Machine Head cleaned house. They might as well rename these awards the Kerrang Fashion Awards and get Gok Wan to present the whole thing. Honestly, 90% of these bands are style over substance. Kerrang constant featuring of these bands is killing the British rock and metal scene. Evile made a huge impact with their debut album and didn't even get a look in, while Youmeatsix get nominated for doing what exactly? Martin ... YOU ME AT SIX = BEST BRITISH BAND The fans have spoken, ya da, ya da...and I suppose this is an accurate representation of the UK's rock fanbase...right. You might argue that these awards are for the fans, by the fans, but at least with the Metal Hammer Awards we get a list of nominees given and vote accordingly - its much more representative of actual achievement. What have Youmeatsix, Dead Swans or We Are The Ocean done? NOTHING! The fact of the matter is that band achievement is now purely gaged on column inches in Kerrang and how many friends you have on your Myspace. The awards are basically nothing but arse-kissing cunningly disguised as hero worship. People voting til their fingers bleed - get a life! These awards are purely about Myspace popularity and hairstyles. Only the best album category looks reasonable. The rest of it is a joke. Enjoy it while you can, because we all know that Kerrang will move onto the next trend before long - and then we'll be wondering where all these bands you namecheck on a daily basis have gone.

You only need to look at the list of nominees to realise that the UK scene alone, never mind internationally, is oversaturated with all these poppy emo bands who seem to be getting more and more sappy and poppy in a desperate bid for mainstream acceptance. If there was any justice, Slaves To Gravity would win Best British Newcomer, but they haven't got a cat in hell's chance of winning against the rest of the competition because they're actually a good fucking rock band, and not a generic emo one! Its shit when you see bands like Slaves To Gravity, Evile, Malefice, etc., busting a gut, getting out on the road, promoting their record to hell despite not having that large a fanbase - yet the fashonistas only need to sweep their hair to one side, all sing with the same voice - or scream the same way - and its instant flash in the pan success without truly achieving anything. Kerrang is basically giving you what you want, and you lap it up, without even giving two fucks about the rest of the British underground scene which is full of amazing bands, all of which are being overlooked so that Kerrang can keep its readership happy.

For all the Youmeatsix fans who seem to be bashing Iron Maiden at every opportunity, lets just remember that Iron Maiden know how to put on a show. Also, the reason that Iron Maiden cost a fair bit more to see, or that you might not get as up close as you'd like, is because they've sold millions of records without major mainstream attention of backing and because they've bust a gut to get to where they are today. I wasn't at Twickenham but when do you see a bad review for an Iron Maiden show? Youmeatsix haven't even got an album yet - you'll all buy it in droves when its released and then when the next fad band comes along you'll move onto them instead. Martin - Yes Youmeatsix might come see their fans after shows. I've got drunk with Winnebago Deal - remember when Kerrang cared about them? That's not hero worship - that's two regular guys drinking with other regular guys, down to earth. Bands like them always put on a good show, cos they have to work harder due to being constantly overlooked. And when you're done calling Iron Maiden 'prima donnas', just remember that they've constantly excelled for the fans where bands like Ghostlines and Sign and Madina Lake miserably failed on Maiden Heaven. You're so out of touch its incredible. Its obvious from the nominees and from the comments made in reaction to the nominees, that there is a massive closed-minded element here that is slowly killing any shred of dignity that the UK has in terms of a quality rock and metal scene. You kiss the arses of some many one-trick ponies on here yet it wouldn't kill you to check out something different once in a while. Don't think that I'm an emo hater per se - I used to be into that scene as well - about 7 or 8 years ago before it exploded - but I listen to anything from rock to metal to punk, grind, doom, industrial, even country and alternative rap. One or two people on here could do with having the same sort of mentality so as to extend on the 1 or 2 bands they appear to exclusively, narrow-mindedly, support.

I think im one of the few people that thinks this is a good shortlist? it shows that kerrangs supporting homegrown talent as well as letting us know whats good from across the pond. Im fed up of fucking linkin park and nickelback everytime i turn on my TV, maybe this list will make them change there horrendous playlist. Seriously i mean even kiss play nickelback its so ridiculously terrible and overplayed. i agree with martin anyone who has been to a yma6 gig would know how hard they have worked to get where they are, they do most of the work behind the scenes and with releases ect themselves the 4 times i have seen them live theyre energy was immense and when to chat to them you can just tell that they appreciate you so much as a fan by buying a ticket, their merch etc at give it a name when the people told them that theyre signing tent was over, they went out the front and saw everyone that had queued but still hadnt seen them, if that isnt fan appreciation then i dont know what is! in a bulliten they even said themselves that they 'dont expect to win, It's an incredible honour to be nominated for a Kerrang Award two years in a row and The way we see it, is that it is a HUGE compliment to be even in the same category as Bullet, Biffy and Prophets.' and for everyone saying that kerrang is now shit due to the short list, they dont decide it, you can vote for anyone you want and the band with the most votes make the shortlist so its all down to everyone that voted! lets stop the hate people!!!!! p.s the dude that wrote 'fuck you me at six' loads of times...you have way too much time on your hands mate!

All those people dishing out abuse to so-called metalheads over their opinions of You Me At Six are complete hypocrites. What's to say that said metalhead doesn't also enjoy bands like The Wildhearts or NOFX, etc. You have no room to talk about narrow-mindedness when you all talk about the same band over and over. The voting system is flawed - you can enter numbers all the way through for your details and still be allowed to vote - both for nominations and for voting for winners too. And with so many people admitting to voting for certain bands 'until their fingers bleed', its clear that the system is open to abuse, and that Kerrang would do well to ditch the fan-based nomination system and instead install a professional, independent panel to decide the nominees - you'd get a much fairer spread.

Narrow minded-ness has actually gone too far. Fuck, I want Elliot Minor to win. Despite the fact that they might not actually be the most rock band in the world, they are still rock. And, damn, they're better musicians than a lot of heavier bands. Classically trained? Yes, but thats what makes their music what it is and sets it apart from the rest. Pretentious? Yes, but a little pretention never hurt anyone, otherwise its just a peice of shit album thrown together cause a band can't be bothered. If any of you were to set your pre-conceptions apart and listen to them, you'd realise they are a very talented group of young men, vocal pitches you couldn't reach in your dreams, beautiful piano, amazing string work and a fuck load of hard work. As for the rest of the bands shortlisted, I'm happy enough. Mindless Self Indulgence and Pendulem are not to my taste, but whatever. Fair do's, they must be good in some peoples' eyes cause otherwise they wouldn't be shortlisted. Some people just need to realise that everything listed there is rock music, some heavier than others. Kerrang is not a Metal magazine, so why should it not feature a wide choice of rock? When did people become so arrogant as to think that their opinions are the correct ones? Just cause you don't like a band doesn't make them "crap", when did you become the almighty? My votes to to Avenged Sevenfold, My Chemical Romance, Elliot Minor, Kill Hannah, Weezer, Avenged Sevenfold, Bullet For My Valentine x2 and Machine Head. Best of luck to all bands, x

in fact, i havent voted for anyone. i've been brought up with the music and in fact, i prefer older bands from these days ones, since most of them sound the same.
It's cool to see Coheed and 30 Secs getting nominations but really, this whole voting thing looks kinda gay considering the kind of posts I have seen here. This list is so typical. All i can say is that i voted and none of the bands i voted were put up on this shortlist. I'm hardly suprised I do not think any of these bands deserve any awards except for perhaps the dillinger escape plan & coheed as a British person it pains me to say that i'm ashamed with most of the british music scene. Best single is a toss up between KIGH and BFMV personally. Best Albums really difficult because I love all of them. Best Live band I'd hand to A7X because they're better live than on album. Ive only just read through the comments above. Half of the people LOVE Bring Me The Hoizon for Oli Sykes hair. Other people fall in love with Ian Watkins for his hair. You Me At Six are all pretty good looking guys, and i wouldnt be suprised if people just fall for their hair. I love You Me At Six, and I do admit the songs they have out are good, the most annoying thing is though that they havent even released a album yet they are up for "BEST BRITISH BAND". I do think they are a good band, but there are other bands that would have deserved to be up for nomination. For example, i would have prefered seeing Enter Shikari up there to be honest. You Me At Six could of had their time somewhen else. I also think that people like Madina Lake everyone just loves them because of their hair. Its so annoying, music seems to be turing in to fashion more than music. If you go on My Space, or if you have good hair, or model for a clothing, then you end up being a really liked band. There was a quote on Gossip Girl not long ago about if people stopped sitting on myspace and things there would be more good sounds and songs to listen to or be produced and its true. Half of the new music scene is un-ordignal. 30 Seconds To Mars last album that they relesaed has been around for agggges. Ive had that album for agessss. They release Attack, people started to know them, then "The Kill" and everyone loves tthem, oo and if for the hair again. I always see them on magizens and stuff, they should be making a new album to be honest. One band I do think deservers some credit is All Time Low, they are a good band and have came in to England with people liking them for being themselves and for having good music. They deserved to be for nomination. Lostprophets also did, as they have always been a good band since they started whether it was for Ians hair or not. Overall, I think Kerrang needs to get more taste back in, its going more indie every single day.

Will everyone quit complaining about the bands nominated whats done is fucking done just because a great band like Machine Head isn't nominated doesn't mean they're not an amazing band. People should be happy at the fact they cleaned house last year if the same band kept cleaning house each year then the Kerrang! awards would be fucking pointless! And just because bands like Madina Lake and Youmeatsix are getting the credit they deserve in Kerrang! doesn't mean that its gone all emo for fuck sake nobody accepts the fact that what these bands are doing is killer Matthew and Nathan Leone ate fucking rotting parts on Fear Factor which later lead to Matthew getting a flesh eating disease all to record their 1st EP I think thats some fucking dedication to put your life on the line to record just 1 EP,Youmeatsix have accomplished alot and they haven't realesed an album! and just because Elliot Minor are up for best british band doesn't mean everyone needs to go slagging Kerrang!
